You are now officially a ThronesCon Verified SellSword! Welcome to the team! By now, you will have been invited to the Verified SellSwords Facebook group, and followed by the Verified SellSwords Twitter group. Please make sure you join both of these, as these will be our primary point of contact for you.

The coming months are going to be big. Once the event goes live to the public, we anticipate a huge response. While we finish preparing everything for the big launch, please remember to keep any information you know about ThronesCon private. You will receive an email from us shortly with a full Non-Disclosure Agreement, which is the final stage of completing your application.

Department Information

As a volunteer at ThronesCon, there are three departments you will be asked to choose from, which are;

[su_spoiler title=”Operations” icon=”caret”]
The Operations department is responsible for helping to run the convention from start to finish. Operations underpins all the activities we run at ThronesCon, including set-up, crowd control, ticketing and logistics. Their duties include:

  • Leading the bump in and bump out of the venue, both for the convention in general, and assisting other departments.
  • Setting up and operating most customer-facing desks at the convention, in particular registration and information.
  • Ensuring attendees are directed to the right part of the convention at all times, through ushering and crowd control.
  • Liaising with and between the other departments to ensure all parts of the convention are on the same page.
  • Ensuring key equipment is moved around the convention, as well as assisting other departments with their logistics.

These are some of the skills we look for:

  • Friendly and open to talking to our attendees
  • Great customer service skills
  • Organised and able to work independently
  • Good communication skills and able to talk above a crowd
  • Great at working when under pressure
  • Experience with cash handling and use of apps and other digital devices
  • Ability to manage crowds of people and direct them efficiently and politely

The Merchants team’s responsibilities are huge! The Merchant Room is an integral part of any convention, and ThronesCon is no exception. Set up and Pack down of the Merchant Room and smooth operation throughout the convention is key to ensuring contributors to the convention have a quality experience. Some of the tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting up of the Merchant room basic furniture, including chairs, power points and small tables. (Major lifting will be completed by the Operations Team)
  • Able to communicate with Merchants on an effective, calm and respectful level.
  • Respond in a polite and professional manner to Merchant and Attendee questions
  • On the day assistance with setting up, management and care of Merchants throughout the 2-day convention experience.
  • Assist with the provision of lunches to Merchants
  • Staffing the ThronesCon Merchants store
  • Working with Merchant Management to ensure that the Merchant room operates smoothly across the days of the convention.

If you feel that you have the following skills, please join this team:

  • Ability to provide an exceptional customer service experience every time, even when under pressure
  • Punctual, and courteous
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Able to read maps and follow all instructions as delivered by the Merchant Management team
  • Be willing to provide a National Police Check if requested (for cash handling purposes in the ThronesCon Store)

The Tech team breathe life into our event, as ThronesCon focuses on both Trade AND provision of entertainment. They deal with the sound, visual, lighting, networking and communications throughout the venue for panels, tutorials, the Merchant hall, and main stage events including our ThronesCon dance parties and King’s feast.

[alert title=”Note:” type=”info”]All roles within this department require prior technical knowledge and understanding. While we will be considering those wishing to undertake training roles, our priority is to recruit experienced personnel for this team[/alert]

Some of the tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Be a part of the Tech control team for Main stage, overseeing Audio, Visual, lighting, computer and mobile device use for Main stage events and setup/ pack down.
  • Think quick, find solutions to technical problems while working under high pressure, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Coordinate and liaise with various people involved with presentation on the Main stage, as well as across the venue including but not limited to the Merchant hall, Break out areas and common areas in order to ensure smooth technical operation.

  • Ability to make the right decisions on the run
  • Punctual, and courteous
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Strong Technical understanding, including networking and communication, Audio desk, lighting desk and visual components
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills. Like, “The Mountain squashing the Viper’s head” Strong!
